Rawlings Josh Zeller Coach

Pros: My son absolutely loves the glove. It got here really quickly. It shipped the same night I bought it, and I paid for the break in. He was playing with it two days later. We didn't have to put a ton of work into it.

Cons: None

Very solid glove for adolescent Raymond Wambaja Parent

Pros: Based on previous gloves and their break-ins, he really likes the 314 pattern with the thumb to the 4th finger design especially because he is a “two in the pinky” glove wearer. The fingers have good structure to help make sure those diving plays won’t result in the ball hitting halfway up and fold them back and come out of the glove. Break-in has been relatively easy… some mallet work on the hinges and in the pocket, hot water treatment to soften the leather for forming, and then a whole lot of catch. Day one 50 balls and then two rounds of 250 from a pitching machine and it is game ready. Lastly, my so really likes the color profile.

Cons: The only concern we have is the palm and heel where the padding has been reduced/eliminated to make it a R2G, how will it stand up over a few seasons. We want this one to last for about 2-3 year.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2CBM? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How does this Contour fit glove compre to the Wilson A2000 DP fit? Looking for a glove for a young infielder with small hands 9-11 range. Deciding between HOH Contour fit or A2000 DP. Jesse Garcia
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2CBM will have standard finger stalls and a smaller wrist opening. The A2000 DP will have both a smaller wrist opening and smaller finger stalls. That would probably be a better choice for a young infielder.
Tori
How much does this 11.5" R2G model weigh? Looking to compare it to the Nokona Alpha Select S-200I 11.25" for my 6 year old. Doug
Unfortunately we are not able to ascertain the weight of the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2CBM at this time.
Cameron
I am considering this glove for my average size 11-year-old soon to be 12 vs the Wilson A2000 SCDP15SS 11.5" INFIELD BASEBALL GLOVE...what would be a better fit for that age group to last for the next couple of years? Also looking at the break in part of it as well. Deigo
Both this Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2CBM and the Wilson A2000 SCDP15SS will feature a narrow fit that is perfect for players 11-14 years old and will have the great leather that comes standard with HOH's & A2000's. This Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2CBM will arrive soft and have a shorter break-in period than the A2000's, however.
Frank
My son currently has the PROR314-2BC and it is a size and feel that he likes. Trying to find something comparable to that. I get the 314 is essentially the model but wasn't sure if the other letter/number combo represent anything. The PROR314-2CBM looks comparable but don't really like the teal color in it. Any recommendations or understanding on how to read the Rawlings model #s? Brent Papciak
The numbering/lettering pattern for Rawlings, when looking at the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2CBM would be as follows: 300 series, "1" means the glove has a more rounded pocket but not as deep as 200 series, with smaller finger stalls, thinner heel pad (1/2) and available in both narrow and regular fit, "4" represents size (11.50 inches), "2" indicates web design (I-Web) and CBM is the colorway (Camel | Black | Ocean Mint).
Cameron
It says this glove closes thumb to middle and 4th. Is this similar to how A2000s close? Jeff
The way the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2CBM closes would be similar to most other infield gloves, including Wilson A2000 models. A more shallow pocket glove would close more towards the middle finger.
Cameron
Can you wear this glove 2 in the pinky instead of traditional? Caleb Ballas
Yes, some players might be able to wear two fingers in the pinkie slot of the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2CBM. Since the set up is not a finger shift design it is likely that most would find the fit comfortable if placing two fingers in the pinkie slot.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
