Description

Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2T

Get a leg up on the competition with this "Ready 2 Go" Heart of the Hide 11.5" Baseball Glove from Rawlings!

Glove Benefits

No glove out there exemplifies baseball lore quite like the Rawlings Heart of the Hide. When you see a glove that has the famed snorting bull in the palm, you know that you are dealing with baseball glove greatness!

Rawlings constructs the shell of their Heart of the Hide gloves with top-grade U.S. Steerhide and this material will be able to handle the rigors of a grueling high school, college or summer season. And to match the shell's quality, the glove's hand slot is made from a deer-tanned cowhide that will be extra comfortable on a player's hand!

This infield model of glove will be great for players at SS or 2B as the 11.5" length will allow for quick transfers. However, it can also be used at 3B too. And it will indeed come with a cinched-up wrist opening that is optimal for adolescent and teenaged hands. However, we believe that a lot of adults should be able to get their hand into this glove pretty easily.

Lastly, this is an R2G (Ready 2 Go) model that should only require 35% of the break-in to be done by the player after they receive it. As long as you give the glove some attention, it should be ready to take into a game pretty quickly!

Great glove TurkeyLegg Coach

Pros: I've never been one to believe that using a certain glove or bat makes that much of a difference....technique, mechanics, and practice is what separates the good players from the great players. I still believe that, but I got this glove for my 10yo a month ago and I can honestly say the plays better with it. He went from an R9 to this and what a difference in quality and feel. To give you an idea of the sizing....my son turned 10 in November 2023 and he's big for his age, he wears adult small batting gloves, the only adjustment we made was to reduced the size of the wrist strap on the glove to snug it up. Break-in was pretty easy and it holds it's shape well. It really is a top quality glove.

Cons: None.

Terrific Glove Pedro Fonseca Parent

Pros: The glove arrived in new condition as described. Super fast shipping (ordered tuesday night, in my hands friday evening). I typically wear large adult work gloves. My hands are probably somewhere between average and thin. Glove is very comfortable fit. Beautiful glove! Thank you.

Cons: None

HoH Jerry Cochran Player

Pros: It has a really easy break in process, it has a perfect infield pocket especially shortstop and 2nd base if you go traditional, if you go two in the pinky it's good for 3rd base

Cons: ITS NOT GOING TO BE COMFORTABLE UNTIL YOU GET IT FULLY BROKEN IN

Great Glove. Don’t Get The Break In Service Jason Player

Pros: Great glove, feel great in the hand.

Cons: Don’t pay for the break in service. It came with a palm crease that took more work to fix than just breaking it in myself.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2T? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Will this glove fit a 10 year old with small/average hands? Matt
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2T would not likely fit a smaller 10 year old hand as the finger stalls are designed for an adult hand/player.
Cameron
My son is 14 yrs old, and not full grown yet. This glove states adolescent in the description as far as hand size. Description also states some adults. As he grows and plays high school baseball will this glove fit him? Matthew Smith
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2T could certainly work long term if the player is comfortable with the smaller wrist opening or can restring the wrist opening to the larger setting down the road.
Cameron
I have fairly big hands and was wondering if this fits an average adult hand? derin
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.5" Baseball Glove: PROR314-2T features Rawlings narrow wrist opening so the glove will still work for some adult male players but those with larger hands will likely find the fit too tight.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
