Game ready - good quality Jake W Parent
Pros: Break in time, craftsmanship, colorway. Very strong quality glove for cost - there’s no sense in buying a HOH for a 10 year old.
Cons: None. Great buy.
Right to the field Kevin M Parent
Pros: Out of the box and right to the infield. Quickly broken in with routine ground balls and a having a catch. Outstanding quality for the price and is a good fit for a young players hand.
Cons: None. Great glove and value.
R9 !! Right Choice H. Lack Coach
Pros: My son is 8 playing 9U travel ball and needed a little stiffer backing than his older glove. After a couple of days playing catch he could close the glove good. Glove feels and looks to be higher quality for the price point compared to others.
Cons: None at this time.
R9 Series Was the Right Choice Coach H Coach
Pros: This is a great glove for young players transitioning from T-Ball and coach pitch to live arm play. Good pocket for all around field positions and virtually game ready when you get it. I highly recommend this series not only for the quality but the price point on this glove is exceptional.
Cons: None
Quality Ryan C Parent
Pros: Leather quality, construction, laces, break in time
Cons: would have liked to see it in brown instead of all black
Rawlings R9 Series 11.5 Ryan Parent
Pros: Fairly broken in. Quality leather for a reasonable price. Small finger and wrist compartments for youth hands.
Cons: Heel needs to be broken in.
7 year old boy J Carter. Parent
Pros: Fair price. Glove break in was easy. Looks and is wearing great. Very happy with it.
Cons: None
Great glove Nick Wood Parent
Pros: Great glove for my 8 year old son. Broke in quickly and seems like the size will last him a while.
Cons: None
No padding in palm area Julie Player
Pros: Great looking mitt Seems well constructed
Cons: My son plays 11U and I bought this for his birthday to start breaking it in for next season. I bought the infield/outfield type glove. We played catch with it and right away he noticed how thin the palm area material was compared to his last glove. I tried it on and had him fire a couple at me and I immediately felt pain in my hand. There is no padding in the palm whatsoever. Very disappointing. Returning it.
Nice glove for the money Eric K Parent
Pros: My son just finished 9U and will play 10U next year. We needed a replacement for his fielder's glove as it was getting too broken down and flimsy. My son really likes the youth pro taper fit from Rawlings, says it fits his hand extremely well and is comfortable. He also has the R9 1B mitt and says the same thing. He's had it about a month now and says he really likes it.
Cons: None so far, we'll see how it holds up after a few years of little league and travel ball
Fantastic youth glove Dustin Parent
Pros: Fits my 11 year perfect Quick and easy to break in Good quality leather
Cons: None
Needs 2 in the pinky Hec Parent
Pros: Its a well made glove. Well padded and durable.
Cons: Its very hard to close if you wear it standard, but put 2 in the pinky and slide your fingers over, it closes great. We also have the R9 catchers mitt.. same feedback applies.
Very high quality Cbass Parent
Pros: Made of heart of hide leather but game ready when new seems very durable and has good built in hand protection
Cons: Pocket leather strings need to be tightly tied after each use but still a excellent glove

I am looking for a glove for my 8 year old son that plays outfield. After a conversation with a Rawlings employee, my son believes this is a good option. My son uses an 11" Mizuno glove and I want to move him up to a larger glove, but since he is a small frame and has small hands, I want to keep him under 12". So my question with this model is: can I form this to fit more like a narrow outfield type or will it only work as an infield/pitcher fit? Ronnye Corona
Looking for a glove for my 10 year old son. How does the Rawlings R9 compare to the Rawlings Pro Select Lite, or the Wilson A700? Bryan
Is the R9 series the equivalent of the Gamer series? If not, where does it fit in the line up? Ted
My 12 year old son loves the taper fit outfield and first base gloves that I believe were replaced by the R9 series. Is the 11.5" too small for infield and pitching duties for someone his age? Troy
I have a 7 yr old. Would this glove be a good upgrade for him and is this size appropriate? Adrian
How is this glove different than the Rawlings Pro Lite Youth Series? Adam
Is this glove 100% leather or is it the synthetic? mike
How would this glove compare to the Wilson A950 or A1000? Looking for a 9 year old travel ball player. Ron
Does the Rawlings youth R9 series come in 11.75? jay

How does this glove compare to the Wilson A500 0r 550. This would be for a Newer 9 year old travel ball player Chad
My son is almost 7, but is playing up with 8 year olds. He currently plays infield with a Mizuno 10.5" glove that is starting to get a little small. Would this R9 series 11.5" glove be a good outfield glove for him or would you recommend the 11.25"? Also, would the webbing difference between the sizes affect the ability to use the glove as an outfield glove? Ryan Mitsuhashi
Would you recommend this glove for a player just turning 5 with a small hand? He has a red and black Rawlings glove but cannot close it. What glove would you recommend? He will be playing coach pitch in the fall. Brad Blalock
Is it for infielder or outfielder? My son is 8 years old. Do you think glove prep service is good for this model? Hoil Jang
I'm looking for a glove for my 12 year old who plays 3rd, ss, pitcher, catcher and maybe outfit, not much outfield. He has a 12.5 rawlings and coaches have indicated that is too big, need suggestions please. Kymm
My son has had a lesser model (Select Pro Addison Russel) that has served well the last few years. He plays infield and will be playing 12 yr old ball this coming summer. He's currently 5'1" but is growing. I was thinking an R9 or maybe a Sandlot in 11.5 inch. I do have a GG in 11.5 but that is sized for an adult so is a bit loose on him. So, I don't know if I should get him a youth taper or a standard taper and just use the narrower wrist strap holes. Scott
11.5 youth baseball glove. we were looking at this for our 14 year old son however all comments seem to mention 8 and 9 year old Victoria
Can you make a recommendation on a similar glove that is more readily available? Seems this is an older model that is no longer available. My son is 9, plays multiple positions, and is looking to get more serious about the game. Jeff Wait
I am looking for this glove in a left hand throw. Aaron Luntsford
About the Brand
Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.
The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.
In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.
In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.
The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.
Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
