PK (dad)

Pros: Good looks, good web structure, great leather. Decided on this instead of a dual core but was worried about the break-in time. As it turns out, this glove will take a good while to break in but that may be the best part. My son is so excited by the break-in process!

Cons: If you care about a quick break in, don't buy this glove - it is as advertised - only 40% factory broken in; there is work to do to make it game ready but that's the point of buying this style/quality of glove.

Great Purchase Chad Parent

Pros: Top quality materials and craftsmanship. Shipped and received quickly.

Cons: Glove is stiff and will take a while for to break in for an 8 year old, but I know that is the trade off with this level of glove and it will be worth the wait.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

what exactly do you mean by narrow fit? is it like the Wilson A1K series? Tommy
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC will have a narrow fit design which means a smaller hand opening. This would be very similar to the Wilson A1K series fit.
Cameron
Would this glove be similar to the pattern of the original DP15 made by Wilson (less padding in the palm and a tighter wrist opening)? Chuck
This 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO314-2BC) should feature more padding in the palm when compared to a DP15 model from Wilson. However, the tighter wrist opening featured on this glove will be similar to what is featured on the DP15.
Ben
Would this glove fit a 9 year old? BB Dad
This 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO314-2BC) will feature a fitting for an intermediate player (player between youth and adult fitting mitts). That fitting may be a little large for your player at 9 years old (I still believe it will be usable by a 9 year old), but it would give him something that he would grow into with time.
Ben
Would you recommend this glove for a 10U travel ball player who plays 3rd base? Is the pocket big to catch those balls and palm padded? Heather
Yes the 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO314-2BC) would be a great option for a 10U player who plays 3rd base. The pocket is padded and big enough for a 10 year old third basemen.
Carter
Will this glove fit a 15 year old? bob
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC has a smaller hand opening but should still fit a 15 year old.
Sean
Will this glove work throughout high school? jdjdsa
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO314-2BC) is a high quality glove that should last you several years given proper care. Whether that lasts all 4 years of high school will depend on how well the glove is taken care of.
Kyle J.
My son plays short and pitches. He is a sophomore playing varsity. Not a large hand. Is this a good fit? JR
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC with that narrow fit is designed for a youth player, so it would most likely be too small for a sophomore in high school.
Logan
Can you tell me how this glove is packaged for shipping? Is it folded up or shipped so it still looks like the picture when received? josh
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC is not folded up for shipment, it arrives how you see it in the picture.
Logan
How does Narrow Fit compare to the Youth Pro Taper? matt
A glove that features a narrow fit like this 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO314-2BC) will feature a tighter wrist opening, but regular adult sized finger stalls. Mitts that feature the Youth Pro Taper fitting will feature a tighter wrist opening and narrower finger stalls.
Ben
I'm buying a glove, but I'm not sure which style would have a wide pocket that would be ideal for a short stop. A Rawlings pro314 or a pro 2174? Robyn Jorgensen
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC would be a great option for a short stop. That is an ideal web style as well.
Max

I have a 9 yr old son and am looking for a good quality glove. With the narrow fit will this glove fit a player of his age? BH3

Tyler
My daughter is a 14 year old competitive softball player that uses a 11.75 Liberty fastpitch glove. We are looking for better leather than the Liberty but don't want to pay the custom price. Is this glove able to be used in fastpitch softball? Will the 11.5 be a lot smaller than the 11.75 that she is currently using? Howard Anderson
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC could be a good fit for what your daughter is looking for. The narrow fit will allow for a tighter fit. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC will feel a bit smaller, because of the baseball design gives it a smaller pocket.
Max
Will the narrow fit be too small for a 13-year-old? Jack
The narrow fitting on this Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO314-2BC) will probably fit a 13 year old hand pretty well. The narrow fit gloves are designed for players with smaller wrists.
Ben
What size is this glove? Kenlee
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC will be a 11.5'' pattern, but it will have a narrow fit design. The narrow fit design will have a smaller hand opening for intermediate or adult players seeking a snug fit.
Max
Would this glove fit a high school player all throughout high school? Kenlee
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC would be a good fit for a high school player if he has smaller hands or would like a more snug fit. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC will have a narrow fit design for intermediate players or adult players seeking a tighter more secure fit.
Max
Can you make the wrist bigger instead of being narrow? Estevan Ochoa
Unfortunately no, we are not able to customize gloves for the customers unless you specifically use the Rawlings Custom Glove builder.
Kyle
My 12 year old middle infielder/outfielder is on the small side with small hands for his age. I know this glove would work for him now but will it be appropriate for him through high school? Rich
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC will it his hand well and have a high leather quality and durability that should definitely hold up through high school. The 11.50'' size o this glove will probably be more appropriate for infield play in high school. It might be a bit small for outfield. If you predict he will end up playing outfield primarily, he may want a 12''.
Tori
Does Rawlings have a comparable narrow fit glove? We tried the A1000 but felt there wasn't enough padding. Seeking an 11.5". Brian
Yes, there is the Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.5" Baseball Glove: PRO314-2CB, which is nearly identical and also a Narrow Fit design.
Kyle
Does the narrow fit include lowered finger stalls? I am looking for a Rawlings model that has same features as Wilson Pedroia fit. Mike
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC features a tighter wrist opening but does not have shorter/narrower finger stalls like one will find on the Wilson DP15 lineup.
Cameron
Is it normal that stains your hand black? Norma
I would not say it is normal for a glove's leather to stain your hand, but it is not uncommon either. This most often occurs when the leather becomes moist in some fashion, typically due to heavy sweating. When this has occurred to me, it washes off easily and rarely occurs much after the initial issue.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
