Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this a youth glove? What ages would it be best suited for? Matt
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO312-2CB) is designed for intermediate players transitioning between youth and adult gloves. This glove is ideal for players between the ages 11-14 years old.
John
Would this glove be appropriate for a 12 yr old? NA
If you have a 12 year old player that is playing middle infield (I would even say 3rd base as well), I think that this 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO312-2CB) would work extremely well. The 11.25" length and the smaller opening would be be optimal for a 12 year old player on the infield.
Ben
Would the fit of this glove be too large for an 8 or 9 year old? Vince
This 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO312-2CB) will feature a narrow fit design that features a smaller hand opening for players that need a bit of a tighter fitting. However, that fit may still be too large for an 8 - 9 year old player. You could certainly purchase the glove, but there may be some time that would be needed before your player fit into the glove completely. That being said, I would note that here at JustBallGloves, we do have a 100 day guarantee on all our gloves that allows customers to purchase a glove and use it, then if within 100 days of the purchase they decide that the glove is not to their liking they can send it back to us for a full refund or exchange. Ultimately you would risk no money if you wanted to try out this glove!
Ben
Is this offered in a left hand throw? jason j
We currently do not offer this model for Left Handed Throwers.
Kyle J.
Is the narrow fit larger, smaller or the same as the youth fit for the Heart of the Hide? I'm a 14 year old travel ball player with a very small hand. is it a bird? yes its the jays
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB will have a similar hand opening as a youth model glove in that it will fit tighter on the hand but would not say it will be as small (opening wise) as a youth glove.
Cameron
Is this glove smaller than an A2000 DP? justin
All of the Pedrioa models of the A2000 are going to be 11.5" while this 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO312-2CB) is going to be 11.25". So yes, this model is going to be smaller than the A2000 Pedrioa models.
Carter
How would this fit a 10 year old? steve o
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB will feature a smaller hand opening which should allow this glove to have a more snug fit for a youth player.
Cameron
Does the Rawlings narrow fit series come in 11.5"? Nickreno
If looking for a Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series we would recommend looking at the 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO314-2BC.
Cameron
Do you think this is too small for shortstop? I am a high schooler who plays middle infield and I'm 5'7" with a smaller hand. fried mediocre
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB would probably be a bit too small for a high school player. The narrow fit is designed more for a younger player.
Logan
Would this be a good glove for an 11 year old? Ricco
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB features more of an intermediate fit and it would be a great option for an 11 year old.
Jason
Is it easy to break in? kiki
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB will take 1-2 weeks to break-in depending on how much time is dedicated each day to the glove.
Cameron
Are you able to embroider a name on this glove? paramedicsam
Unfortunately we do not embroider the 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB or any of our other gloves. However, we do offer Rawlings Custom Gloves that are manufactured at Rawlings, which gives you the option to embroider your name into the glove.
Trevor
What is the difference between the heart of the hide and pro preferred? scotty
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) is going to be more durable and last longer than the 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB because of the kip leather it is made of.
Max
My son used the 2017 Rawlings Gamer Youth Pro Taper 11.25" (GYPT2-2B) last season and wanted to upgrade to a better quality glove. Does this glove have the same hand opening? Nathan408
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB will have the same hand opening.
Max
Would this be a good glove for a 14 year old short stop with a really tiny hand? scotty
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB would accommodate your needs. I would suggest anything from a 11 to 11.25 inch.
Trevor
Is the hand opening the same as the Pedroia models? Tim
The wrist opening and finger stalls will be nearly the same size as the Pedrioa models.
Kyle J.
Does this come in a regular fit or is the pro312-2cb series the narrow fit? bb
This 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO312-2CB) comes as a narrow fit design.
Mick
I am interested in the "used" option for this glove, but would like some more information on it. Also are there any photos? Sam
Sadly, we will not have any photos for viewing of the 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO312-2CB) that is considered to be in "good" used condition. A "good" condition glove will be one that had been used pretty extensively by a former owner and then sent back under JustBallGloves' 100 day guarantee. This glove may have some oil applied to it and a decent amount of break-in may have been done on the mitt.
Ben
My son is getting ready to turn 9 and has been using a Rawlings Gamer XLE Pro Taper glove (G112PTGO) for the past year. He has used it heavily for almost 2 years but would like a higher quality glove such as the PRO312-2CB, WTA20RB151786, or WTA20RB18PF88 that will hold a shape better and that he can grow into for a while. Which of these models would you recommend for a player his age that plays many practices and games a year in both infield & outfield? CoachDad
For a player at that age, I would recommend the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series: PRO312-2CB. All three gloves are going to hold their shape well, but the PRO312-2CB offers a more secure fit for a younger player.
Logan
My 11 year old plays 12u travel ball 3rd base. He has been using a Rawlings 11.75" Gamer glove that is now worn out. Would this 11.25" be a good fit for him or should we go with a larger size? John
I would advise against going with a smaller size like the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit "Series: PRO312-2CB. Typically, we recommend 11.75" for third base, so the Rawlings Gamer 11.75" Narrow Fit Baseball Glove: G315-6BG would be a good option.
Logan
Was wondering more about the narrow fit and what the advantage is? Mat
Narrow Fit gloves are designed for players who might have smaller than average hands or prefer a very snug fitting glove. The wrist opening and finger stalls are designed to fit smaller sized hands than standard glove sizing.
Kyle J.
My son is 6 and plays the infield. Would this be a good fit for him? He has a Nakona now and complains about the palm lacking padding, in turn hurting his hand, however the size was great. danny
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO312-2CB) may be big for a 6 year old. Typically, a 6 year old will use a 9.5" mitt.
Mick
My son is 15 years old, plays middle infield and also pitches quite a bit. Will this glove be a good fit for him pitching as well? Antler Baseball
This Rawlings Heart of the Hide Narrow Fit Series (PRO312-2CB) will feature a narrow fitting which will have a wrist opening that may be a little tight for a 15 year old player. As well, the I-webbing on the mitt will allow for a lot of open spaces for a hitter to peer into the glove if it is used on the mound. If you wanted a Heart of the Hide that will work for infield and the mound, I would recommend the 2017 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core 11.5" Baseball Glove (PRO204DC-4BG).

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
