Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I have had a Rawlings HOH-7OHF for a while. What is the length of my glove and where is the measurement made on the glove? BOB
Unfortunately, I was unable to find the length specifications for that specific model (HOH-7OHF) that you had mentioned. Typically, measurements for length are made from the tip of the index finger on the glove to the heel of the glove. If you were interested, this 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series (PRO301CDC-6BS) will come with a 12.50" length.
Ben
Is this model for adult use? Gustavo Zambrano
The 2016 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS is designed for an adult hand.
Cameron
Can this outfielder glove be used for infield? Aaron Forest
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS would probably be too large to be used as an infield model.
Tori
I understand this glove will require some break in, utilizing a normal week of 4-6 hours per week of practice, how long might it take to be fully broken in? 4033
We would imagine a break-in period for the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS to take between 7-10 days based on the practice parameters that have been mentioned.
Cameron
Would this glove work for a middle fielder slow pitch softball player? Looking for higher quality glove and really like the price of this one. SoftballFan
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS should work well for a slow pitch softball middle infielder. The 12.5" baseball design will offer a large enough pocket for use in softball, while not being too big for quick transfers on the infield.
Logan
Would this glove be good for an 11 turning 12 in September? Tommy
The 12.50" size of the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS might be a little too big for a player that age, but it certainly could be a great glove for him to grow into.
Tyler
I am a recruited college pitcher, looking for a new glove. I have about an average sized hand. Would this glove work? Bess
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS is not a pitchers model but rather made for OF play. A good pitching option would be the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRO206-9JB. This model is smaller at 12.00 inches and features a two-piece fully closed web.
Cameron
Could I use this glove in outfield for slow pitch softball? Jo
You certainly could use this Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS in slow pitch. The 12.50" is on the smaller side of the typical scale for slow pitch outfield gloves, but it would still work well nonetheless.
Tyler
Does this glove have deep pockets? Could I use it for outfield softball? Which glove would be a good outfield softball glove? I don't want a huge glove. mark
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS, although designed for baseball, could certainly be used for OF in softball play. Since this glove is designed for OF baseball play, one will find it to have a deeper pocket but certainly not to the same depth as a 12.75 or 13.00 inch model.
Cameron
Does this glove require any break-in? Ben
Yes, the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS will still require a break-in period. It is approximately a 25% player break-in.

The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS features a slightly reduced hand opening.
Cameron

Recommended for fastpitch? Kevin
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS could be used for fast pitch, but the hand opening could be a bit large as it is designed for an adult male.
Max
I see this is a narrow fit in some of the reviews. What age would wear this glove? My son is 12 around 5'0", turning 13 in summer? FR
Your son should be able to use this glove at his age since the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS does have an narrow fit. This is an adult model, but can be used by younger players, adults with smaller hands or players who like a tighter fit.
Tori

The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO301CDC-6BS is intended for adult players. The 12.5" pattern works perfectly for the outfield.
Daveron
Is this good for high school outfielder? Jake

Kyle J.
Will this glove work for an 11/12 year old outfielder? Joe Ramos
While the adult internal structure found on the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series (PRO301CDC-6BS) might be a little large initially, I think this glove would be a fantastic option, especially as your player continues to grow.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
