Pros: Fairly light weight. Break-in period extremely short. Perfect fit and feel.

Cons: Not a fan of the modified trap web. They offer this with an "H" pattern for an extra $100.00 if you choose to customize your glove at Nokona which is absurd. The "H" should be a regular option.

Big Jack

Pros: I have over the years of playing accumulate a number of baseball gloves mostly Wilson A2000 series. At age 60 my playing time has been relegated to a good catch. I purchased the 1275 , without a doubt the best glove I have ever owned. While it is a bit pricey it's worth every penny. It took me a couple days of prepping and it was ready to go. A fantastic glove that is without equal in my estimation.

Cons: N/A

Pros: High quality leather, good durability, decent weight, fast break in as advertized

Cons: The pocket on my glove broke down very quickly, glove gets flimsy which i dont like, not very stiff fingers, better gloves out there for less.

Pros: Great feel, breaking in nicely. Nice size for both baseball outfield and softball. Beautiful glove to boot. Ballgloves.com also has fantastic customer service. My first glove arrived damaged. They sent me a replacement via next day air before they received the first glove back. First rate service.

Pros: Game ready. Leather is nice.

Cons: Super flimsy after just a few weeks. String stretched out. Doesn't hold its shape - the webbing started bowing in a bit so that the top bridge over the web is inverted. This is my 2nd Nokona - the first one (Walnut) tore right through the palm after a year. Guess I'll start looking for a Rawlings or Wilson.

Replacing a lost AMG series glove from late ‘90’s Mike coach

Pros: Amazing glove. Top notch quality materials and game ready after one break in session and some pounding with a small dumbell. Im convinced there's not a better glove out there.

Cons: none

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Nokona X2 Elite 12.75" Baseball Glove: X2-1275? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How does the leather on this glove compare to Rawlings Heart of the Hide leather or Pro Preferred leather? Adam Amigo
The Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1275 is made with a combination of kangaroo and stampede leathers. Rawlings does not use the kangaroo leather, which is a little lighter and softer than traditional steer hide. The nice thing about this X2 series is that it comes with a game ready feel, which is hard to find in any other high quality leather glove.
Justin R.
Can this glove be used for slow pitch outfield play? JT
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1275) would be a great choice in the outfield during slow pitch.
Aaron
Would this glove be good for a 10 year old baseball player for outfield? Baseball Dad
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1275) has a 12.75" pattern and might be a little to much glove for a 10 year old. Typically, 10 year old outfielders are using an 11.50"-12" glove.
Jason
Would it be good for a 13 year old infielder that can last a long time? gib
The 12.75 inch design of the Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1275) would overall be a it long for infield play. Most infielders would use a smaller design such as the Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1150).
Patrick
Is the leather consistent unlike other Nokona models? natenate99
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1275) does tend to slightly vary in size like the other Nokona models. This occurs because of the process in which Nokona gloves are made. All X2 Elite models are made with a combination of Kangaroo and Stampede leathers.
Jason
Does this glove wear out quickly because of its quick break in period and soft leather? Bob
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1275) will feature a mix of Kangaroo leather and Stampede Steerhide leather. The Kangaroo leather is very strong and lightweight as well. Typically, with more expensive cuts of leather, they are far more stiff. The Premium Stampede Steerhide used in this glove is an excellent example. However, since Kangaroo leather is so lightweight, it is very flexible and able to be broken in fairly quickly. The Steerhide will keep the long-term shape and structure of the glove, while the Kangaroo leather allows for a quick break-in period.
Joe
How does this glove fit a kid with smaller hands? Lucas
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1275) is designed for an adult male's hand with larger finger stalls and wrist opening. It will likely be a little too large for a younger player with smaller hands. Depending on their age, another option would be the Nokona Alpha Select Series (S300) with more of a youth-transitional sizing.
Joe
Would this be good for a freshman outfielder looking for it to last through high school? 44
Yes, the Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1275) should work well for that and, if taken care of, should last for a long time.
Patrick
Can this glove be used for slowpitch softball? pops
Yes, the Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1275 may absolutely be used for slow pitch softball.
John P
Would this glove be suitable for a 15 year old high school varsity fastpitch player who is primarily a pitcher but plays some shortstop and first base? She is 5'8" and weighs approximately 140 pounds. Would wearing a batting glove on her glove hand be appropriate? Big Jack
The Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1275 would be more ideal for an outfielder. Based the player's age and positions, I would recommend looking into a glove with a 12" pattern.
Nick
I have a question, what is stampede steerhide? Benc
The Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1275 is primarily constructed from Kangaroo leather. It also features a full-grain steerhide and this type of leather is a top shelf leather as the imperfections are kept in tact to allow the leather to maintain additonal strength and durability. The stampede designation implies more to the color than anything else.
Cameron
Is this suitable for men's fastpitch softball as an outfielder glove? amber
The Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1275 is designed for baseball, but it can certainly be used for softball as well.
Jason
Is this a lightweight glove? Also, is the leather soft? Stefan Romaniuk
The Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1275 will have a weight of 640 grams which is lightweight when you compare it to other gloves in a comparable category. The glove is constructed from stampede and kangaroo leathers which will help lend a supple feel to the glove out of the box. With that said, there will be around a 20% player break in before the glove is game ready.

About the Brand

Joe Phillips writes about his visit to Nokona. It was like sitting in at the plantation party in Gone with the Wind or maybe gazing from the grandstand at the “Field of Dreams” while the Black Sox players tried to work out their idled muscle kinks. And, I was gently reminded by the lines in that movie while I dug into a delicious plate of North Texas barbecue: “threshing crews eating at outdoor tables. It continually reminds us of what once was, like an Indian-head penny in a handful of new coins. . . You talk a good dream.” And here I was. . . graciously invited into this magical and charming “Field of Glove-Making Dreams” in former Comanche Indian land at Nocona, Texas. It was a warm August evening, basked in a golden harvest moon, while friends and the Nokona family paid its kindly southern regards to two of their own and two of America’s finest but relatively obscure glove makers, Bobby Storey and Elvin Ray “Ab” Lemons. You see, the pair had just completed fifty years of time-honored employment with Nocona Athletic Goods, the last of the all-American made ball glove company's. The occasion brought echoes of past successes and human contentment, but in Nocona today you still experience much the same American texture of yesterday and perhaps a glimpse into tomorrow as well.

The two stately gentlemen were being honored in a way that could have taken place in the same manner when they first reported for full-time work at Nokona, in 1952, or back even earlier, in 1933 when the company started making sports equipment. During a brief and informal presentation at the celebration, Nokona’s new sales manager called the two glove makers “Legends - because that’s what their ball gloves stood for, American know-how and pride taken in a best-made product.”

A man of few words but a marveled craftsman who could literally conjure a sows ear into a playable baseball mitt, Mr. Lemons got up and fondly recalled the several men he worked with through his half-century and of the training that had been passed along to him from his old bosses.

His counter part and just as talented, Bobby Storey, had filled in at just about every job at Nokona. Bobby, the son of the sporting goods founder, R.E. “Bob” Storey had most recently served as president and now chairman of the board of Nokona. Though past retirement age like Mr. Lemons, he’s now serving at one of his favorite roles, that of ball glove designer.

At a time for employment in this country when five years is considered a long tenure with the same company, Ab and Bobby are not even the first to complete a half-century journey with Nocona Athletics. The now deceased Jewell Brickey, hit that milestone in 1993, after joining the company during World War II. That’s the kind of devotion that employees forge into this glove-making outfit. A devoted and sustained tenure here is not rare. Last year the company advertising, displayed along with Storey and Lemons, three other employees who had garnered 40 years with Nokona, Warren Clary, Bud Meekins, and Melvin Weedin.“

I don’t have to tell you that the one constant through all the years has been baseball”, wrote W.P. Kinsella. And the most constant of ball glove makers has been Nokona, and the men and women there who keep alive the tradition of American craftsmanship of ball glove making. The spirit of glove-making is still alive and well in Nocona, Texas.
