Description

Mizuno Prospect 31.5" Youth Baseball Catcher's Mitt: GXC112

Mizuno is known for making it their priority to develop ball gloves for every age and skill level. The Prospect Series is tailor made to fit a young ball player's hand.

Glove Benefits

Multiple technologies make it easier for younger players to close the glove, catch the ball and learn to love the game. These gloves help youth players catch the "right" way, in the pocket. Mizuno's patented PowerClose technology places "hinges" where players would close the glove to make squeezing the ball and making the catch as simple as can be! Inside the glove, a ParaShock Palm Pad reduces all shock caused by impact and leaves the player's hand sting-free! This mitt also utilizes a conventional open back with a narrower wrist opening to create a snug, comfortable and custom feeling fit for every player. This 31.50 Inch catcher's mitt is a full-sized youth pattern and features a two-piece closed web to make snagging any kind of pitch as simple as possible. Mizuno: Be Yourself, Only Better! Pros: My 8 year old soon used this glove for fall '12 and spring '13 seasons, when he was learning to catch. Can't believe how quickly the glove broke in! Son loves it. Great glove for young catchers!

Cons: Better for smaller hands. He feels it more catching faster pitchers than I expected.

very pleased dad clint parent

Pros: purchased this glove with hopes of my 6 year old being able to use it, and as i was reading other reviews all i had seen was ages from 8 and up and i didnt think it would be small enough for his hand, with that being said, this glove is the best, he took it right out of the box and was using it like he has had it for years, very pleased with it, had to make a few adjustments to the pocket, but thats no big problem!

Cons: no cons:

At 31.5", the Mizuno Prospect Series: GXC112 Youth Catcher's Mitt is more common among 9 or 10 year old players. However, if you want a mitt he can grow in to and use for several years, this would be a great option.

I'm 16 and I have big hands. Is this glove good for me? How long does this glove need to break in? Also, is this glove good to use in high school? Eli
The Mizuno Prospect Series: (GXC112) is going to be designed for smaller hands because it is a youth model. Therefore, if your hands are bigger, I would suggest looking at some adult sized gloves. As for the break-in, this glove will not require an extensive break-in. The leather will be pretty soft, and durable.
Merritt
What mitt do you suggest for a 6 year old? Chip
The Mizuno Prospect Series (GXC112) would be a nice choice for a player of that age. The power close technology will allow for easier catching a softer feel.

Could this glove be used for youth fastpitch softball, using an 11" ball? Tim
This glove is designed for baseball, so I would not recommend it for fastpitch softball.
Kyle J.
This mitt seems small. How can we be sure it fits properly (my son is 11.5 years old)? donna
This Mizuno Prospect Series (GXC112 Youth Catcher's Mitt) will probably be a little small for your 11 year old. I might recommend a mitt with a 32" or 32.5" circumference. One that I might recommend viewing is Rawlings GG Gamer Series (GCM325BT Catcher's Mitt). The fitting might be a little large in the fitting to start, but I think it is something into which he will grow with time.
Ben
My son is 8 and I need to get him a mitt. I have never bought a catcher's mitt. What size is the best for 8 year old boy? Rick J
For an 8 year old player we would recommend getting a 31-31.50 inch mitt. The Mizuno Prospect Series: GXC112 Youth Catcher's Mitt would be a great option as this mitt features a 31.50 inch pattern, a youth fit and, with the PowerClose Technology, it is a mitt that is easy to use right out of the box.
Cameron
My son is a catcher in Little League majors. He is on the smaller side of his age. He is 11 going on 12 in June. I am not sure what size his glove is now; he has used it since AAA for over 2 years. It seems a little small and sometimes the ball is popping out of his glove. What size and brand do you recommend and also which break in faster? dpc
A mitt is always going to be one of personal preference so there is no exact size of mitt a player should use based on his age. Per the age of your player, our general recommendation would be 32.00 inches. The Mizuno Prospect Series: GXC112 Youth Catcher's Mitt could work from a size standpoint at 31.50 inches and will fit a smaller hand; break-in will be relative fast as this model features the PowerClose technology.
Cameron
I'm looking for a catchers mitt for my 7 year old son . Which one would you recommend? Frank H.
The Mizuno Prospect Series: GXC112 Youth Catcher's Mitt would be a great option for your son as he is getting into catching.
Max
My son turned ten in the late winter and he plays AAA this year. This is his first year catching. He loves it and does really well with it. He has been using a first baseman’s glove. I want to purchase him a catcher's mitt with more padding but allows him to close his mitt. He has tried a catcher's mitt and he couldn’t close it and was frustrated. What would you recommend? I am willing to go up in price. He really seems to enjoy catching and I want him to have a really fun experience. Pam Marquis
The Mizuno Prospect Series: GXC112 Youth Catcher's Mitt is a good option for a younger/youth catcher and the 31.50 inch size is a perfect fit for a 10 year old. As well, the PowerClose Technology will allow for an easier break-in and ability to close the mitt. This mitt should certainly enhance his joy and experience at the catching position.
