Unfortunately, there is no other size between the 33.5 inch CM3000SBT and 35 inch CM3000BT. A 33.5 inch mitt would be better suited for a high school age catcher.

Many of the reviews talk about how soft the leather is, from my experiences if the glove breaks in fast and is soft it doesn't last. So, the question: is this glove stiff out of the box and does it break in slow like a Heart of the Hide or is it soft? Soft worries me in lasting power! catcher80
This glove does have soft leather, but it will take more then a week to break in. This glove will hold up for a long time and you should not see anything wrong with the glove. After a couple years, the games will get to the glove, but this is one of the best catchers mitts we carry.

This is a high quality, durable mitt that holds it's shape very well. If you work with the glove everyday it should be good to go after a week or week and a half. Repetition is key.

That's a difficult question to answer without knowing your age or preference towards catchers mitts. However, going from a 32.5 to a 33.5 would be a significant and noticeable jump. Just ask yourself, How comfortable is the mitt I'm currently using? Also, do you ever have any problems trapping balls in the dirt or any other issues like that? Comfort level is the ultimate question though. If you feel really good with the 32.5 mitt you have now, there may not be a reason to go up or down in size. I would recommend going to a local sporting goods store and try on various size mitts.

U.S. Steerhide means the glove uses the hide of steers from the U.S. Japan tanned steerhide uses the hide of steers from Japan and All Star says these mitts will be a little higher quality.

The All Star series is going to be heavier and stiffer than the other gloves. It will take longer to break in, but it will be very durable. The other three are good leather as well. They will be a little softer than the Pro Elite gloves.

All Star makes a nice quality glove. Their leathers are top quality, soft and durable. One suggestion, go easy with the glove oil, the glove is pretty soft, and you don't want it to become floppy. The padding is very well done, especially in the thumb area.

Both are great mitts. Assuming you are comparing the same size in each, the A2000 may be just a little lighter in weight. Both are high quality mitts with similar break-in times, the All Star may be just a little stiffer out of the box though.

If you are looking to get the absolute most out of this mitt in terms of durability, I recommend repetition as the best way to break it in. You can ask any elite level collegiate or professional player, and they'll all say that repetition is the best way to break a glove in. Some of the different models of the all star line carry a different logo than the logo on the All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000SBT). There is no definite reason for this, but the All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000SBT) will come with the logo shown in the picture.

The "Toe" is just a part of the glove that All-Star refers to. It does not change the performance of the glove. You will not have to look for that in a catchers mitt. The All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000SBT) Catcher's Mitt has a "Profiled Toe".

We have had some customer reviews saying the laces get stretched out, however that will happen with nearly any glove during use. During the break-in period laces will stretch, and simply require a tightening every once in awhile to maintain that stiff feel it has when it's brand new. This will be the case with nearly any glove. The 33.5" All Star gloves are the same size as the 33.5" gloves from any other manufacturer.

The All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000SBT Catcher's Mitt), Rawlings Pro Preferred, and the Rawlings Primo do not list the weight of the gloves. The Primo will feel the heaviest. The Rawlings Pro Preferred and All Star Pro Elite will feel very similar.

The size of mitt you should use is based less on your size as a player and more on your personal preference. A 33.5 inch model like the All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000SBT) is a commonly used size and right about middle of the road between a large pocket size but a shallower pocket for an easier transition to the throwing hand.
Professional catchers, just like every other level, vary greatly in the sizes they prefer. Take, for instance, last years gold glove winners: Salvador Perez uses a very small 32 inch All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000XSBT) that is great for transition to the throwing hand while Yadier Molina uses a much bigger Rawlings Heart of the Hide (PROSCM41JB) which is a 34 inch mitt.

I think that moving from a 31.5" model to this All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000SBT Catcher's Mitt) in the 33.5" length would be an adjustment. However, I think going with a 33.5" model like this CM3000SBT would give your son a model that is more in line with his age. That being said, some catcher's like a smaller model and that might be your son's preference. I might even look into some models that have a 32.50" circumference like the Wilson A2000 Series (A20RB15PUDGE Catcher's Mitt)

I bought my son the CM3000SBT cather's glove a few weeks ago to go with his Wilson A2K Dustin Pedroia infield glove and his Rawlings Pro Preferred outfield glove. Unfortunately, I do not think that All Star currently produces key chain tags for their mitts like the All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000SBT). I actually checked their site and they do not currently have any available for purchase.

The size of catcher's mitt we would recommend would be based more on your personal preference than your size or age. Certain players like a bigger mitt while others like a smaller one for different reasons. A bigger mitt is better for secure catching and a bigger target but can be heavy and harder to maneuver. A smaller mitt is lighter and easier to move and can help with transfer time to the throwing hand but is a bit harder to squeeze the pitch to secure the catch. A 33.5 inch model like the All Star Pro Elite Series (CM3000SBT) is somewhere in between the two and is a very common choice.

The best way to break in any catcher's mitt (including this All Star Pro Elite Series: CM3000SBT Catcher's Mitt) is to play as much catch and catch as many bullpens as possible. To be honest, any oil will benefit the glove in regard to softening the leather, but overuse of oil will lead to weighing down the glove. Be sure and be very light in the use of oil if you will be using it to assist with the break-in of this glove.

It really depends on your hand size if whether or not you can fit your hand in the glove with the thumb guard. I would definitely think so, but it is hard to judge without you actually trying it on.

The All Star Pro Elite Series: CM3000SBT Catcher's Mitt is going to be pretty stiff, and not necessarily lightweight. If you are looking for a softer mitt, I would check out the All Star MVP Series: CM3030BT Catcher's Mitt, but it wouldn't last as long as the Pro Elite Series.

We have not heard that the All Star Pro Elite Series: CM3000SBT Catcher's Mitt seems smaller than the listed 33.5 size. With any catcher's mitt, the actual size will differ then listed as the circumference is measured prior to construction. The change, if any, would be smaller than 1/4" in our opinion.

Unfortunately it is most likely not possible to get have your glove returned to its original condition. Steaming can remove a lot of the moisture from the leather and it is difficult to get that back. You can try using a high quality glove oil to gradually add some pliability and moisture back, but there is no guarantee that will work for you.
