Big Mac

Pros: Great Glove. Nearly indestructable even for a 7 yr old. My son has enjoyed this glove for 3 seasons now.

Cons: Very long break in period. Takes an adult to break it in, or a teenager with a smaller hand.

Big Mike

Pros: This is a great glove. My son is smaller and has small hands and he loves this glove. On year 3 with it and he won't let me buy him a new one!

Cons: Longer break in but that's why it lasts. I highly recommend this glove for a 6-9 year old middle infielder or whatever.

Good for very young players who play competitively Meester Coach coach

Pros: This glove is light weight, which allows the younger player to handle it easily. It has a small hand opening and tight finger stalls which makes it an ideal size for such a young player. It does take a little work to breal in compared to some of the lower level gloves, but not nearly as much break in time as high end gloves. I would classify this as a mid level glove, perfect for 4-7 year olds. I bought this glove for my son when he was 4 years 10 months, and he is now 6 years 3 months. In that time frame he has used it just about every day. He has used and abused it, and it is now just way too floppy. The pocket is well formed, but anything that is caught/fielded on the fingers is at risk of bending the glove back. It wasnt like this out of the box, but its just done now. If your kid doesnt play year round, exoect about 4 good years out of this glove. My son literally uses it daily at practice, games, and work outs at home, so it lasted him about a year and a half.

Cons: Didnt stand the test of time, but was great before it got too soft.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Akadema Rookie Series Youth Baseball Glove: ARA93B? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this a good glove for high school? tj
This is a smaller, youth model designed to fit the smaller hand of a younger player. This glove would be a better option for a 8 to 10 year old.
Jeff
Is this a good middle infielder glove? Any others in this range? Ice
This would probably be a good glove for you. In this price range, it would be hard to beat this glove. Wilson also makes some pretty good gloves in this size and price range.
Brett
H-web vs I-web. Is it a matter of personal preference or is each type better for particular positions (infield vs outfield)? Scott
Honestly, it is a matter of the personal preference of the player. Some infielders prefer I-web or H-web glove because an open web glove tend to trap the ball a little better. Other infielders prefer closed web gloves because they're known to help with quicker ball transfer. Most outfielders will use a open web glove (like an H-web), trapeze web, or modified trap web. However, the choice ultimately comes down to you.
Brett
Could this glove be okay for a fifteen year old who is trying to learn how to throw left handed? KINg of the new york milk shake
This is going to be a youth glove. I would recommend this glove for someone that is 9-10 and under.
Brett
How would this glove be for a 9 year old girl playing fast pitch ? dave
This glove is designed more for baseball. But the pocket is such that you could break it in to a softball. The biggest difference between baseball and fastpitch gloves are the finger slots are smaller for a girl's hand with the fastpitch models.
Linda
Does this glove comes in the right hand thrower? Would this be good for a 6 yr. old on the small side? He's been playing with the Mizuno 10.5" and he wanted something easy to break-in and still fit his small hands. Alb
The Akadema Rookie Series: ARA93B does come in the right hand thrower and we expect to get more in about 2-3 weeks. This glove has a very short break-in period. For a 6 yr. old we would recommend a smaller glove of 9.50" to 10.00".
Aubrey
Would this be a good training glove for college baseball? scoop
No. At least not in my opinion. The Akadema Rookie Series: ARA93B is a Youth glove. If you have average (or above) size hands for an adult male, then you'll probably find that this glove will be way too small to even fit on your hand. But if you have below average size hands, then go for it.
Tyler
My son plays middle infield and likes a lightweight glove. Would this be good for him? chaz
The Akadema Rookie Series: ARA93B Youth glove features AkademaLyte Leather on the back to reduce the total weight of the glove. This 11.00" pattern would be a great option for a Youth middle infielder.
Mac
Inquiring if this glove comes in a youth size 12.00"? PH
The Akadema Rookie Series: ARA93B Youth is not available in a 12.00". However, the Akadema Prodigy Series: ARC88 Youth is available in a 12.00" youth model.
Kara
Would this glove be a good size and quality for a 9 year old playing tournament baseball? If not, what glove or size would you suggest? Casey
For a player of his size, our glove coach would recommend the Akadema Rookie Series (ARA93B Youth) in a 11.00 inch model. The ARA93B does feature a game-ready feel requiring little break in. It also features a lightweight design and additional padding.
Joe
My son is on the smaller size of 8 going on 9. He plays the middle infield. Is this glove legit for him and what size does it come in? olamon
The Akadema Rookie Series (ARA93B) specifically is an 11 inch pattern but the Rookie series also comes in a 10.5 inch model which would be the Akadema Rookie Series (AJP96). Either option could be a good choice for your player.
Patrick
I am looking for a blue, royal or baby blue colored glove. What do you have in the 11.5 range? Paul C
Sadly, we do not have any blue colored options of an Akadema model like this Akadema Rookie Series (ARA93B Youth) in the 11.5" length.
Ben
How used is this glove? mark
The Akadema Rookie Series: ARA93B Youth is listed in "good" condition which means this glove will look like a used model. The glove will be completely broken in, feature scuff marks from use and leather discoloration from any glove oil/conditioner that was previously applied to the glove.
Cameron
Can this be used for softball? Trying to find a good softball glove. Chris
The Akadema Rookie Series: ARA93B Youth is technically designed for baseball, so it is not the most ideal option for softball. Ideally you will want a glove that is listed as fastpitch for the best options for softball.
Jason
Would this be recommended for a 7 year old? My son is currently using a size 10 Mizuno which is small for him. Jason
I would suggest moving up to a 10.5" glove or 11" glove for this player.
Dan
Can you please tell me how much this glove weighs? Schven
Unfortunately we do not currently have the Akadema Rookie Series: ARA93B Youth in our showroom so we would not be able to ascertain how much this glove weighs.

About the Brand

In Akadema's short but remarkable history it has become one of America's hottest baseball and softball equipment company for professional, college, high school, and serious youth players. The Akadema phenomenon started with the Professional Glove Series and continues with the Reptilian®, Praying Mantis®, Pro Soft™ and Prodigy™ Glove Series as well as the Amish Wood™, Tacktion™ and Xtension® Aluminum Bat Series. Akadema's ownership attributes increasing market share to their innovative professional baseball and softball product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design to raise the level of play.

Akadema's products are manufactured for professional players but are now accessible to semi pro, college, high school, and serious youth players. Akadema products are still designed with the professional player in mind but competitively priced for the professional player at heart. So it's your turn to think like a professional, play like a professional, and use Akadema Professional!

Akadema now has both baseball and fastpitch softball advisory staffs that they work with closely to implement new ideas. Members of the baseball advisory staff include Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter as well as Howard Johnson, Reggie Smith, Luis Polonia, Sandy Martinez and many others. Fastpitch stars that are on the advisory staff include Crystl Bustos and Julie Smith. The input on performance from the advisory staff gives Akadema something they cannot put a price on. Their advisors don’t talk about marketing or places to sell the gloves, they just care about performance.
