Description

Akadema is the most exciting baseball and softball company in the world. Akadema's ownership attributes an increasing market share to their innovative quality professional product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design that raise the level of play. Much like in the insect world where the Praying Mantis is known to devour its competition, Akadema's new 33.5" catcher's mitt will do the same to conventional catcher's mitts. The Akadema patent Praying Mantis: APM40 Catcher's Mitt is the most innovative catcher's mitt ever to hit the market, with many unique features setting it apart from the competition. With new patented Stress Wedge technology, located between the index finger and thumb, the Praying Mantis offers shock-absorbing protection for the hand against injury and sting when receiving the ball. The Praying Mantis also offers two additional Finger Hammocks allowing the fingers to be firmly positioned and more secure in the glove. Additional features include the Double-sided Slim Padding allowing for increased pocket size and easier ball retention. Uniquely designed shape allows the throwing hand easier access in the pocket, resulting in a quicker glove to hand transfer and faster times to second base. Akadema: Bring Your "A" Game! Pros: Very durable, I used it for two seasons. The double laced pockets have never broken for me, and is the best glove for the money in my opinion. The leather is not a bad quality, I used it in college and it outlasted two A2000's.

Cons: Deep pocket, takes longer on throwdowns (most likely mental).

Pros: Very good glove for the price. Double laced pocket is very durable. I also liked the extra finger hammocks. Forms good pocket. I've used it for 1 season and it's holding up alright.

Cons: Pocket is too deep, making my throws to second longer. Becomes a little too flimsy after a while. The back stretches and makes the glove loose and harder to control.

Pros: Best catchers glove I've ever owned. Gel wedge in pocket takes a lot of sting out of the ball. Easy to break in. Glove really pops when caught in the pocket. I feel like it's much easier to find the ball when transfering for a throw. Have used the glove for 5 seasons, and have had no problems.

Cons: None

Pros: Best Glove I've ever owned. I used it in High School while i caught MLB 1st round draft pick throwing 90+ mph. My hand never hurt while catching for him. I recommend for any catcher who doent want a jammed thumb, ever. Great Pop sound when i catch the ball. Glove has lasted me almost 2 years now.

Cons: Deep pocket can make it uncomfortable for throws down to second at first. But, once you get used to way the glove is formed. You wont want to ever own a different glove. Wish it was made in different colors.

Cons: After a year padding starting to soften up. Not meant to catch fast pitching 85+. Bruised the heck out of my hand.

Pros: Good glove for the price. Almost impossible to jam your thumb while using this mitt. Laces are thick. Glove lasted 2 years.

Cons: Took a long time to break in, but that's expected for any good catchers mitt. Not much padding at all, hurts catching speeds 70+

The thumb hammock broke. Any way to get it repaired? Bruce

I am a male with average sized hands and am catching for female fastpitch pitchers. Borrowed a Mizuno fastpitch catcher's mitt the other day and it was too small for my hand. What type of glove would you recommend? catch
The APM40 is going to be a glove that I would recommend. Any of the bigger baseball catchers mitts would be a recommendation. This glove is going to have a bigger pocket for you to be able to handle the ball. The fastpitch ones are going to be to small for you since the hand and finger stalls are going to be smaller.
Brett
My son is a lefty high school catcher (believe it or not). Had a Nokona Buffalo that wore out. Has a Bloodline now but is very stiff. How would you compare this mitt? Gman
The Bloodline is going to be a lot stiffer then the Akadema Praying Mantis. The Bloodline is going to be one of the top of the line catchers mitts on the market.
Todd
What size catcher's glove would you recommend for a 9-10 year old girl who plays softball? She's also a lefty. Would this glove be good for her? coachkimof02
The APM40 is an adult baseball catchers mitt. We suggest a 31.50 to a 32.00 youth fastpitch glove.
Kara
How stiff will this be when I get it out of the box and how long would it take to break in this glove? Is this baseball or softball? lolman
The Akadema Praying Mantis Series: APM40 Catcher's Mitt is an adult baseball catcher's mitt. It will be stiff out of the box and like most catcher's mitts, it will require a decent amount of break in time.
Kevin
Deciding between this glove and the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core. Need a glove with a lot of padding that holds its shape and doesn't become floppy. Catching guys throwing 85-95 so need something that can take that. I like a glove to also be a tad bit stiffer out of the box so I can form it how I want. Anthony
The Akadema Praying Mantis Series: APM40 Catcher's Mitt With FREE Akadema Sunglasses wouldn't be as stiff as the Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PROCM33DCC. The Rawlings will have the most padding as well.
Chad M.
Which glove would you recommend this or the All Star Pro Elite Series: CM3000BT? Which will break in faster? jcwellan
The Akadema Praying Mantis Series: APM40 Catcher's Mitt and the CM3000BT are both great Mitts, but the CM3000BT has been more popular based off of our customer reviews. The Akadema will have a faster break-in period than the All Star.
Noah

The Akadema Praying Mantis Series (APM40) Catcher's Mitt offers double-sided silm padding for protection and a larger pocket. Also, the leather will be slightly more durable than the Akadema Pro Soft Series (APP240).
Tori
I have an 11 year old that is big for his age. He currently uses a 32" Rawlings. Would this glove be too big for him? Brian
The Akadema Praying Mantis Series (APM40) is an adult catcher's mitt and is designed for older players. We recommend the Akadema Prodigy Series (AGC98-12).h
Kara

Marcus

The Akadema Praying Mantis Series: APM40 Catcher's Mitt has a larger 33.50" pattern while the Akadema Praying Mantis Series: APM42 features a slightly smaller pattern at 32.50".
Marcus

Marcus
I am tying to decide between this or the Mizuno Samurai GXC31. Which one will be stiffer out the box and which will last me longer? ebuckets
The Akadema Praying Mantis Series: APM40 Catcher's Mitt will be slightly more broken in compared to the Mizuno Samurai Pro Series: GXC31 Catcher's Mitt. As for the durability of the two, there will not be a significant difference if both gloves are cared for the same way.
Cameron
Is it worth the price or would it be better just to buy a GG Gamer Rawlings for $100? Miketrout27
The quality of the leather on this Akadema Praying Mantis Series (APM40 Catcher's Mitt) will be considered slightly higher than the leather quality featured on a GG Gamer from Rawlings. Overall, I would say that this Akadema will have higher potential durability then a GG Gamer. As well, I would note that here at JustBallGloves, we do have a 100 day guarantee on all our gloves that allows customers to purchase a glove and use it, then if within 100 days of the purchase date they decide that the glove is not to their liking they can send it back to us for a full refund or exchange. Ultimately you would risk no money if you wanted to try both of gloves!
