Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove: PRO200-6K? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Would this glove be good for a 3B, OF and Pitcher? T-Bone
If you were wanting to get a glove to use at all 3 positions mentioned, this 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove (PRO200-6K) would be a model to consider for use. The only position at which I would be tentative about using the mitt is on the pitcher's mound because this mitt has an H-Web (which can sometimes be peered into by hitters).
Ben
What does "Kris Bryant Game Day Model" mean exactly? Does it have "Kris Bryant" stitched/embroidered on the glove? Jon
This 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove (PRO200-6K) is referred to as the game day model for Kris Bryant from rawlings because the specs of the glove are most similar to what Kris Bryant uses in games for the Chicago Cubs. That being said, this glove will not be inscribed with Kris Bryant's name on it. It will only feature the product code of "PRO200-6K" on it.
Ben
Would this glove be good for third? mattg
The 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove: PRO200-6K is a 12.25 inch pattern and will be too big for most 3B. Typically a 11.75-12.00 inch pattern would be better for most 3B.
Cameron
Would this be a good glove for a 14 year old outfielder and pitcher? Blt
Yes, the 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove (PRO200-6K) is definitely a good option for an 14 year old outfielder and pitcher.
Carter
Is this way too big for a shortstop? Or could it work? The kid
The 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove: PRO200-6K is a 12.25 inch pattern and would not be a glove we would recommend for someone who is playing SS. Typically for this position a glove that is 11.25-11.50 would be best with some taller players preferring a 11.75 inch pattern. This Kris Bryant game day model is better suited for a taller 3B.
Cameron
Would this be too big for 3rd base and a 6' sophomore in high school? dantheman91691
The 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove: PRO200-6K would be a good option for a high school or above third baseman.
Jason
Would this serve as a good 3B/outfield glove for high school? glove dude
The 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove: PRO200-6K could serve well for both 3B and OF although a 12.25 model would probably be too big for most high school 3B (11.75 may be a better fit but certainly not good for outfield).
Cameron
How is this glove compared to a Wilson A2000 in the same size? Which should I get? reid
This 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove (PRO200-6K) is designed to fit a player with more of an adult male hand that is playing 3B on the infield. The 12.25" A2000 (WTA20RB18PF92) that we carry has the same 12.25" length, but it has a more snug fit to it. That A2000 is meant to be an outfield mitt for an intermediate aged player. Also, this Pro Preferred features higher quality leather to it. If you are looking for an infield mitt for more of an adult player, go after this 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove (PRO200-6K).
Ben
Is this glove a good fit for a 6 '1 junior high school 3rd baseman? Mike
Yes, the 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove: PRO200-6K is a good option for a high school third basemen.
Carter
What are your thoughts in terms of this model for a high school girls softball infielder? Are their models that would better fit her smaller hand yet be large enough to work well with a softball? Softball Glove
The 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove: PRO200-6K is going to have a hand fit meant for an adult male. Considering your player has smaller hands, I would recommend looking at the Rawlings Heart of the Hide SWAG 12" Exclusive Fastpitch Softball Glove: PRO316SB-2SLC. This glove will still provide high-end leather quality, while being made with fastpitch softball player's (hands included) in mind. Unfortunately, we do not currently have any Rawlings 12.25" fastpitch gloves in stock.
Tyler
I have a 15 year old outfielder with smaller hands. What glove would you recommend? jay
This 2017 Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.25" Baseball Glove (PRO200-6K) will feature a fitting for an adult male hand, but it will have the 12.25" length (which will be a little smaller for outfielders in high school / high school outfielders usually prefer 12.5" to 12.75"). Even though it has a fitting for an adult male hand, the opening of the mitt can be adjusted to be tighter on a player's hand if needed.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
